DirectX 11 Announcement Coming This Month?
Do you feel that, PC gamers? That pressure? It's the future, bearing relentlessly down upon you.

While many PC gamers are still without DirextX 10, thanks to its Vista-only segregation, word on the PC tech streets (in this case, Graphics Whore boulevard) is that DirectX 11 will be announced by Microsoft later this month, no doubt accompanied by pictures of Crysis featuring all kinds of lighting and environmental effects you won't be able to see/afford until 2011.

The announcement's supposed to take place on July 22-23 at the XNA Gamefest event in Seattle. http://www.xnagamefest.com/

Hailing Frequency - Startrek Online Update Old and New!
For over a week now, Hailing Frequency has been releasing a series of previously unreleased images and screenshots from Perpetual Entertainments failed attempt at Star Trek Online.

(See Here: http://www.hailingfrequency.co.uk/boards/index.php?topic=786.0 and Here: http://www.hailingfrequency.co.uk/boards/index.php?topic=800.0)

Many people around the world now look at the now bust Perpetual Entertainment with a certain amount of contempt - after all, they left us hanging for three years on possibly the thinnest thread ever known to exist, however, if you take a look at the failed project in another light, from another perspective and perhaps it can be considered a learning experience.

Star Trek is possibly the most established franchise in the world - with ten released movies and six series, Star Trek becomes a challenge for even the most experienced game developer and of course, Perpetual was a fairly new development studio and for all of their talent, they were really just learning as they went along.

However, for the new developer of Star Trek Online, the failed attempt by Perpetual is a valuable thing - because they can see what worked, what didn’t work and learn from Perpetuals three years of dealing with the community, what the fans want and do not want.

The new developer does have three other major advantages over Perpetual Entertainment - One is the fact that they do already have several released MMORPGs that have not only been highly successful, but also revolutionary in that they did things that they did things that haven’t been done before.

Secondly, they have an established game engine that is amazingly powerful and highly adaptable and thirdly - They have money! Whereas Perpetual Entertainment had to secure investors and publishers and god knows what else, the new developer has the resources to develop and publish the entire project in house.

But enough of looking to the future - lets take a look into the past for a moment with another three images from Perpetual Entertainments Star Trek Online.

Again - We do apologize for the quality of these images. We debated for a long time internally whether to release them or not due to their quality; however they do serve to give us some insight in what we could have expected from Perpetual and what we can look forward to from our beloved new developer.

The First Image demonstrates another aspect of the game that Perpetual Entertainment was toying with - The possibility of Sub-Terrainian settlements and cities. Why stick to the planets surface, when you can go underground and create something potentially even more spectacular

Our second and third images come to you from the realms of deep space. We have not been able to identify the ship in these images due to the bad quality, however perhaps someone in the community can shed some light on them.

Discuss these images here: http://www.hailingfrequency.co.uk/boards/index.php?topic=812.0

New announcement: A Look Back at Perpetuals STO
As we all know, Perpetual Entertainment shocked the community back in 2004 with an announcement that they were begining development of a Star Trek Massivley Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. For many, this news was the shining jewel that they had been waiting for, however, little did we know that we were in for a three year road to no where.

In the final months of Perpetual Entertainments development of Star Trek Online, they famously released the first two official in game screenshots of Star Trek Online. The first one showcased the space based aspect of the game, while the second one showcased the ground aspect, however two screenshots was all that was released....publically.

We have been given the go ahead by the powers that be to start generating some significant hype for Star Trek Online, and while it should be noted that the new developer is "not making Perpetuals Star Trek Online" - they are aiming to be completely to make a high impact game that is above and beyond what Perpetual were working on.

With that, the time has come to take a look at the first in a series of exclusive images that have come into the possesion of Hailing Frequency since 2006.

Todays image was a contender in the category of "what image would we like to show folks of our ground aspect" at Perpetual Entertainment. While they eventually settled on releasing the imfamous "Gorn" image, the staff here at Hailing Frequency feel that this image based on Vulcan did a much better job of showcasing the ground game that Perpetual had.

I think we can all agree that it is pretty spectacular, and we can safetly assume that the new developer is aiming to top this - so to you all, i say - Viva La Star Trek Online.

Please note that due to the nature of these images - in that they were never intended as official releases, the quality is lower than one might expect.

5 Battlefield Titles in the Works?
During Ben Cousins’ (Battlefield Franchise Executive Producer) keynote yesterday at GDC (Game Developers Conference) Paris, Cousins stated that five Battlefield titles are in development. Thanks to VE3D and others who sent this in.

EA announced at the start of the year its first entry in the free-to-play market would be Battlefield Heroes, and the publisher is set to release Battlefield: Bad Company for home consoles this Friday.

But the team is also at work on three other games based on the series, including a traditional core game aimed at consoles, and a new collaboration with Neowiz specifically for the Korean market.

"Since the start of this year I’ve been working as executive producer for the entire Battlefield franchise - we’ve got five titles in development at the moment, which is probably more than you expect," Cousins told the GDC Paris audience during his keynote presentation.

Concrete proof that Cryptic Studios is Developing Star Trek Online!
Speculation has been arife about who could possibly have the development rights to Star Trek Online - with some people suggesting Bethesda or "Blissovision" - however the hot favorite until now has been Cryptic Studios.

Well, it appears that we may well be on the road to getting an answer of sorts to the question - "Are Cryptic Studios Developing Star Trek Online" with the appearence on the Cryptic Studios homepage, of a mysterious countdown timer, with an unmistakeably Sci-Fi Esque background picture - which some people have speculated is very similar to some of the early concept art for STO from Perpetual.

UPDATE: Thanks to some help from Demosthenes, former owner of the now shut down STOnet, we are now able to confirm that the image used on the Cryptic Timer is from Perpetual Entertainments Concept Art for Star Trek Online.

Here is a scan from the Gamer Informer Magazine from an article on STO from Perpetual, publisehd shortly before the closure of Perpetual.

It would appear that we now have some concrete confirmation that Crytic is developing STO!!!!

Remember folks - Hailing Frequency is currently operating the ONLY dedicated Star Trek Online website on the internet at http://www.sto-zone.net as we have done since Janurary 2008 - so - for the latest breaking news on Star Trek Online as it happens (or perhaps even before it happens) Keep it Hailing Frequency!

Crysis WarHead - Announced 1.3Patch a No Go!
In Crysis Warhead, players will don the Nanosuit of Sergeant Sykes, also known as ‘Psycho’, one of the most memorable characters from Crysis. More brash and aggressive than his Delta Force squadmate Nomad, players will experience Psycho’s parallel story during the events of the original game, finding that life on the other side of the island is even more intense and explosive than they ever could have imagined. Luckily, Psycho’s Nanosuit is just as capable and he’s equipped with an even bigger arsenal of fully customizable weapons and new vehicles, giving players access to the tools they need to dominate any situation. Aside from this new, exciting single player campaign, Crysis Warhead will also feature new multiplayer content. Stay tuned for more details this summer.
